About Me

Tamala Duran, A-CFHC

I am a National Board Certified Functional Health and Wellness coach and…

I LOVE NACHOS!

I do, I really love them. Quite possibly I could blame my whole weight gain (and loss, and gain) journey on nachos. I still love nachos… and I still eat them.

I went through my 20’s, 30’s and part of my 40’s eating “normal” and then when “normal” made my scale scream uncle and my clothes refuse to fit I would go on a “diet”. Which diet?

I’ve Done ALL the Diets…

I’ve done Jenny Craig, South Beach, Atkins, Nutrisystems, cabbage soup, grapefruit, Weight Watchers, and countless more.

I would lose the weight I wanted to lose, and then think “Thank God!” now I can go back to eating “normal”. Guess what happened? Yeah… that.

Finding My Way To the Holy Grail

In my prior life I worked in medical sales – first in surgical lasers, then pharmaceuticals, then ventilator monitors and back to pharmaceuticals.

Everything revolved around medical interventions. I had yet to discover the wealth of knowledge surrounding the body’s own capacity for healing.

Healing through proper nutrition, rest, and exercise. Interventions that actually worked to solve the root problem instead of just covering up the symptoms.

Suddenly, My Need To Learn More Was Sent Into Overdrive When Two People Very Close To Me Were Diagnosed With Cancer.

I love to read, I love to research and I love technology. All my love of learning now centered around this one question, how to become and remain as healthy as possible.

I dove into reading and research about food, nutrition, bio-hacking, longevity, cancer prevention and optimal health. As I learned and applied each new concept, opting for more foods that would provide the ingredients my body needed thrive I naturally found my healthy weight.

Nachos

I found habits and methods that allowed me to fit into my clothes, fend off chronic diseases (diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease, cancer) and stay healthy all while enjoying my life, not feeling deprived and YES.… having nachos every now and again.

I Figured Out That (Are You Sitting Down?)

All diets work – some less, some more – but they all work… while you’re on them, but that’s not really the point.
Here Is My Point

The point is that we all want to live healthy lives, at a weight that feels good to us, with joy, free of disease and yes…sometimes with nachos. I figured out that you have to design your life with habits that make you happy, ones that you can sustain, ones that work for you.

Finding a way of eating that supports your health while not being overly restrictive and unsustainable is a process, it takes some trial and error, but it’s possible

Not everyone is going to love running or Crossfit or yoga or lifting weights or whatever. But, everyone has at least one way to move their body that does bring them joy.

Not everyone is a great sleeper, but there are tweaks and tricks to improve sleep.

Not everyone operates in a Zen state all the time but there are ways to learn to manage your stress

I’ve traveled that road and can help you find your path to optimal wellness that works for you, your personality, your likes, your dislikes, your body. And yes… occasionally nachos.

I live in Austin, Texas with my husband and am mom to my awesome son who is currently pursuing his Ph.D.

Through the wonder of the internet I am able to work with clients all around the world.
